本书以回忆录的形式叙述了一名参军入伍的少年遇见了一位老兵，听他讲起了从前的故事，关于如何不当英雄，不争荣光，只愿成为一名无名之辈的一缕往事。本书的主角不是英雄，他有仁慈同时又怀揣懦弱，他不是战场上守护同伴的英雄，为求自保，甘为逃兵，宛如一位真实的人。如今英雄主角拯救世界的小说遍地开花，我想写一位杂兵的故事，他是所有精彩故事里的盐，本应一笔带过，作为英雄来临时的铺垫，而我却想写他的故事，只因为我们皆为无名之辈，他会做我们所做，想我们所想，因为他也是无名之辈。本书女性角色将不作为主要描写，也就是没有所谓的女主，挑战虽大，但也有可能流失一部分的读者，但我坚持如此，我相信其中的内容会令读者心生感触，其中关于人心战争的描写也会尽力趋近于真实，所以避免不了一些黑暗的描写，关于这点，会应网站要求做一些更改，其中对话会穿插一些美式幽默，因为个人阅读习惯的关系，整本书的描写会偏向翻译腔，我也相信这种写法更适合这种题材的小说，最后希望无名之辈样章的内容能引起贤者们的兴趣和共鸣，感谢。
